About Richard

Richard Dodson is a career coach and online visibility expert. Through his writing, speaking, and consulting, he empowers careerists and emerging entrepreneurs to raise their visibility, unlock opportunities, and earn more recognition and rewards. After years as a VP with Lee Hecht Harrison (where he coached more than one thousand clients through tough career challenges), he recently launched Artisan Digital, an agency focused on digital publishing, e-commerce, and launching experts into the digital space to increase their impact and income. And his first paid job was as…a magician!

A LITTLE BIT OF PLANNING PLUS A LITTLE BIT OF EFFORT CAN LEAD TO A HUGE AMOUNT OF MOVEMENT TOWARD THE LIFE YOU WANT!

For more than a decade as a Vice President and Consultant at Lee Hecht Harrison (LHH), a premier leadership and career consulting firm, Richard coached over 1000 people toward the fulfillment of their career aspirations, whether they were just getting established, building influence later in their career, changing careers, conducting a job search, or transitioning to consulting. Clients and colleagues alike describe him as “sincere, supportive, quick-witted, creative, and connected.” He is co-creator, with Nancy Burke, of LHH’s proprietary Behavior-Based Change Model™ and the Developing Personal Resilience™ program, both of which have been rolled out globally.

From the inception of his career, Richard has been committed to independent professional development. He graduated from U.C. Berkeley nearly debt free by establishing and running a successful event planning business. He then launched a technology startup, built an award-winning career transition program, and served as an adjunct faculty member at the Carlson School of Management where he taught courses on strategic human resource issues. He also worked for Ridge Training as Director of Custom Design where he learned the craft of creating training that sticks and that actually leads to behavior change.

He recently founded Artisan Digital, to helping companies leverage online strategies to connect with buyers and grow sales. His interest in online marketing has been longstanding, starting when he built his first website with html in the 90’s. In the last few years he became an expert at optimizing LinkedIn profiles, then he learned Search Engine Optimization (SEO for Google and Amazon) as well as digital product creation. He’s even launched his own successful brand on Amazon.

Richard is the coauthor of Power Your Career,The Art of Tactful Self-Promotion at Work, a topic on which he is also a popular keynote speaker.

About Nancy

Nancy Burke spent the last two decades helping people find their best places in the work world. She grew up in human resources roles at Pillsbury, U.S. Bank, and Jostens followed by an SVP role with Lee Hecht Harrison, a leading global career services firm where she led the Twin Cities career transition practice for years. Now, Nancy provides coaching through her company, FuturePerfect, and is a co-founder and principal of Burke&Penn, a business that helps people 50+ plan their futures in life and work. She has an unfettered passion for fireworks!

IF YOU LOVE WHAT YOU DO, YOU”LL NEVER WORK A DAY IN YOUR LIFE!

Nancy believes that if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. She has coached people for 30 years in finding work that is a good fit for them, and in being successful in the career they have chosen.

Her experiences in corporate environments, as a small business owner, as well as her extensive non-profit board and volunteer work, have given her perspectives and knowledge which have resulted in Power Your Career: The Art of Tactful Self-Promotion at Work. She has written articles and has been a frequent speaker on Tactful Self-Promotion.

For 16 years prior to starting her current businesses and writing Power Your Career, Nancy was Senior Vice President with Lee Hecht Harrison, a global provider of career transition and leadership development services, where she primarily worked with people in transition, from middle managers to the C-suite, in virtually every profession and industry. With Richard Dodson, she was also co-developer of LHH’s “Developing Personal Resilience,” program, which was rolled-out globally.

Nancy also worked in human resource capacities for FirstBank (now USBank), Pillsbury (now General Mills), and Jostens, and has had her own consulting business. Nancy has also been an adjunct faculty member at the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis, MN) and Metropolitan State University (St. Paul, MN).

Her interest in adult learning led her to volunteer work as a tutor, trainer, board member and President of The Minnesota Literacy Council, as well as a board member for Laubach Literacy International (now ProLiteracy) in Syracuse, NY. She has recently volunteered in the areas of homelessness and hunger, and with domestic abuse survivors.

Nancy has a BA in liberal arts and an MA in adult education from the University of Minnesota. She lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with her husband, loves quilting, hiking, belongs to three book groups, and spends as much time as she can with two daughters and two grandsons. She’s also a novice artist, trying to develop skills in botanical illustration.
